Program Focus
All Letters of Intent submitted to the Talents Program will be reviewed closely
by the Talents Evaluation Committee. However, those that are most closely
aligned with the goals of the program stand the best chance of receiving
funding. Generally speaking, the Talents Program is looking for proposals that
address the use of IGIV in immunological, hematological, and neurological
indications.
Such proposals may include, but are not limited to, efficacy, mechanism of
action, safety and tolerability, quality of life, pharmacoeconomics, and route
of administration.
Talecris is also interested in supporting research into other uses of IGIV and
has funded investigator-initiated IGIV studies in oncology, transplantation,
ophthalmology, obstetrics and gynecology, and dermatology.
In order to help applicants tailor their applications appropriately, it is worth
remembering that the novelty of an application is important. If the Talents
Evaluation Committee believes that a proposal is re-visiting issues that are
already well established in the scientific and clinical literature, its chances
of receiving funding are diminished. Also, if a researcher seeks to do clinical
research into new areas of IGIV use, there should be a body of literature or
other compelling scientific reasons for exploring this indication. In other
words, some proof of concept is needed or a researcher should first apply to
conduct a basic science proof of concept study.
